eSourcing eProcurement Contract Management Plus
Revelations from NIGP's 2010 Conference
by Darren Henderson on 12/06/10
In the worst economy experienced in the lives of many of those employed in the government procurement profession, the attitude was neither optimistic nor pessimistic. Instead, attendees arrived to learn how to get better, learning with and from their peers, and in some way take advantage of the this economy.
Electronic sourcing and electronic procurement tools continue to be in the current and future plans of select agencies. I was excited and humbled to hear our customers talk to their peers and our prospective customers referencing the many benefits of our e-sourcing and e-procurement solutions.
Wow! eSourcing is still Wow-ing Procurement Professionals Today

Thirteen years ago this month, myself and one of our developers were watching our client conduct the very first electronic bid event via the internet. The school district's purchasing director grinned from ear-to-ear when the results were instantly tabulated and presented for quick evaluation and award. "Wow!" was a commonly used term to describe what was happening as the software automatically sourced and notifed suppliers, organized bid responses for easy comparison, and calculated the results. The terms e-sourcing and e-procurement had yet to be spoken, yet esourcing and eprocurement had just taken place.
Today, clients and prospective clients continue to express and verbalize their astonishment using the same words and emotions. Few things in life truly automate 60+% of one's workload. The most recent for me was the Digital Video Recorder (DVR). I can watch a three hour baseball game in forty-five minutes. Wow! Once I understood what a DVR could do for me (and my family), I bought two. Interestingly enough, television is not as important as it use to be, and I think that is because now I control television. I no longer have to abide by it's schedule.
The same can be said for esourcing and eprocurement, the automation quickly moves you to the control point - a decision. Wow!
